چکیده
The purpose of this paper is to compare three types of non-monotonic semantics: (a) proof-theoretic semantics based on the closed world assumption, (b) model-theoretic semantics based on the notion of a minimal model and (c) model-theoretic semantics based on the notion of a minimal Herbrand model. All of these semantics capture the non-monotonicity of common sense reasoning, i.e. the ability to withdraw conclusions after some new information is added to the original theories, and proved to be powerful enough to handle most examples of such reasoning presented in the literature. However, since these formalizations are based on diierent intuitions and often produce diierent results, the problem of understanding the relationship between them is especially important. In the rst part of the paper we concentrate on the class of positive logic programs, also called deenite theories. Although the three semantics usually diier for universal sentences, our main result shows that they always coincide for existential queries. This result is particularly 1 signiicant in view of the fact that in many applications existential queries are of main interest. It also plays an important role in the problem of nding a suitable declarative semantics for logic programs. In the second part we investigate arbitrary universal theories and we show that subtle diierences exist between the three approaches and therefore no straightforward generalization of the results from the rst part can be obtained.

Evaluation of Coal Waste Ash and Rice Husk Ash on Properties of Pervious Concrete Pavement
The use of pervious concrete has been significantly considered in recent years. This consideration is due to the properties of pervious concrete in relating to the environmental sustainability that is utilized in the effective management of the runoff from rainfall. Coal extraction and rice husk obtained from milling, produces wastes that have no application and followed by environmental pollut...
متن کاملSessile and Pendant Micro-Liter Drops Evaporate at Different Rates: An Experimental Approach
Evaporation of micro-liter drops from solid surfaces at room condition is mainly governed by diffusion. Therefore, there should be no difference between evaporation rate of sessile and pendant drops. However, some studies indicate a difference and explain the difference using buoyancy. The objective here is to reconcile the inconsistency in the literature. For that, first, by comparing two iden...

Introduction: As the traffic is one of the most common social troubles in big cities, widen the roads culture and using the intelligent methods are using to control the traffic. Therefore, the traffic control systems are innovated. These system operators have to do many cognitive jobs to manage these systems. CWA as a framework to improve the design of these systems has introduced i...
متن کاملA Closed World Data Exchange
Data exchange deals with translating data structured in some source format into data structured in some target format, given a specification of the relationship between the source and the target and possibly constraints on the target, and answering queries over the target in a way that is semantically consistent with the information in the source. Theoretical foundations of data exchange have b...
متن کاملApproximating General Logic Programs
Consider an informal speciication S 1 containing the closed world assumption (CWA) for its domain of discourse, the speciication S 2 obtained from S 1 by removing CWA, a general logic program formalizing S 1 , and an extended logic program T formalizing S 2. We will say that T is an approximation of. The goal of this paper is to investigate the relationship between formalizations and T. In part...
